SKR works in a number of ways to prevent and put an end to all forms of violence against women, whether physical, mental, sexual or economic.
SKR believes that the extent of men’s violence against women is an expression of the structural inequality and lack of equal opportunity, and of misleading perceptions and norms regarding gender. This is often described as the overall balance of power in society.
But the balance of power cannot be the only explanation; it must be combined with other explanations, such as sociological, psychological and economic, if we are to understand what leads to violence and how that violence is expressed by the individual.
Supporting our member organisations
SKR’s main task is to support our member associations and the local development of shelters. We do this by providing training, conferences and up-to-the-minute information. SKR monitors investigations, bills and proposals on matters concerning women’s shelters. SKR takes part in the public debate and informs the media and the general public about the knowledge, experiences and work of our members.
